Maze. (2008)

I salvaged this from an old bunch of notes I wrote back in the day, and while I wrote it a few years ago, I feel like it's still very relevant in my life and the lives of others.

It's not terribly profound, but for me, it's nostalgic. Thus, I will share it:

Maze.

That's basically a one-word summary of life. It gets confusing having so many paths to take, and at times, you don't know whether the path you're on is where you should or shouldn't be. With all the confusion, we tend to stray until eventually we end up lost and feel like giving back up. But thankfully, we'll always have a Guide to get us back on track.

Proverbs 11:14 says...

"For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisors make victory sure."

I personally had to embrace this guidance because lately I've been just accepting life's crap without a fight. And really? It was working for me. Because by allowing my self to just brush aside everything that happens made me numb. Killing my senses removes the shock, removes the pain. No worries.

But I'm not gonna let it anymore. My reaction to hearing someone cussing or lying may be deemed "dramatic" or an overreaction, but it's who I am. As a person, and as a Christian. And if my reaction is truly bothering someone...that's just a little thing called conviction.

And it's a good first step.

How's Life? (August 2010 Edition)

Unfortunately, with college starting this week, an insane work schedule, and my general lack of focus, I'm finding myself unable to write about each individual experience I have. Nonetheless, I have found a solution...

Yet another list.

1. As I've already mentioned several times, I started college this week. Initially, I was terrified. I didn't know where anything was, some of my classes are the size of my graduating class, and it was really freaking hot outside. Luckily, there were MANY sweaty, disoriented Freshmen even worse off than me. That made me feel alot better about myself.

The verdict? I really, really like college.

2. My friends and I went on a road trip to Carowinds as a back-to-school celebration of sorts. It was the farthest I've ever driven unaccompanied by an adult, and it was probably one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. I learned that South Carolina policemen are horribly intimidating, and I discovered that rollercoasters are a heck of alot more exciting when they're not built by Dolly Parton.

3. I'm trying a new approach to Bible devotions as suggested by my Sunday School teacher, and I have to admit, it's a moving experience. At times, I'll read a passage and it will be rather irrelevant, and then other times, the words on the page seem to have been written specifically for me.

I'm constantly being reminded how good God is, and how amazing it is that He loves me.

Welp, that sums up the last week or two. I'll try to make sure my blog isn't always like this, all listy and such.

My first college assignment.

It went a little something like this...

Back in late June, all incoming Freshmen at UT were informed that they were required to read the book Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder and write a creative response about it.

Not bad for Summer reading. I've had much worse, so I didn't complain.

Unfortunately, I assumed that the assignment was due on the first day of school since that's when normal people make Summer reading due.

But I recieved an email at approximately 5:46 PM EST last night that read:

This is just a reminder that your creative responses are due tomorrow! Many of you have already begun submitting projects and they are outstanding so far.

If you have problems please email me and I will help you!

Have a great evening!

Drew

It wasn't a great evening. Thanks buttloads for that, Drew.

Communication is really, really important, especially with the people in charge of your grades. Although, the people in charge of my grades can't seem to grasp that concept.

I did get it done, though. Unfortunately, some of my friends weren't so lucky.

I blame Drew. As should we all.

He sent me searching...

For the first time in several months, I decided to flip through the infinite collection of blogs here on Blogspot.

After about the 30th page, I started to pick up on a pattern. When you look into the raw content of each blog, you'll either find a young mother or father raving about how wonderful and beautiful their child is, an aspiring artist or musician trying to get their work noticed, or you'll find the rest of us. The ones who are just trying to find their place in this crazy world.

Honestly, half of the posts I took the time to read through were confused or curious people, of all ages, searching for something. Whether they were reading the Bible, traveling around the country, or just simply trying to think clearly for a change, all of them simply wanted direction. A purpose.

I guess it really caught my attention because they were all just like me. Well, not the old woman living in an RV with 14 cats and a python, but most of them were like me. We all have a place in this world, and we all have to find it. Some of us, myself included, are having quite a time trying to find it, but regardless, we've gotta keep searching.

"God is waiting eagerly to respond with new strength to each little act of self-control, small disciplines of prayer, feeble searching after Him."
